La Grange Little League is a
100% volunteer-run organization, and we really need help from our parents to keep the season running smoothly. During registration, there will be
$125 volunteer fee added to the league fees. If you opt to volunteer and successfully fulfill your commitment, you will be reimbursed your entire volunteer fee.
Commitment
Fulfilling your commitment in 2024 will require a minimum of 3-4 hours, which could result in multiple shifts. Some volunteers, such as coaches, will obviously put in more time than others.
Reimbursements
Reimbursements will happen throughout the season, typically within a few weeks of finishing your commitment. Because there are plenty of volunteer opportunities throughout the season, parents who fail to fulfill their full commitment will not receive a reimbursement
even if volunteer opportunities towards the end of the season are limited.
This upcoming season, the below volunteer roles will be available. You are able to sign up for more than one role; however, you can only receive one reimbursement. Note: signing up at registration only tells us that you are interested in volunteering for those roles; for most, Signup Geniuses will be sent out which will require you to save your spot.
Head Coach (*)
The responsibilities of the head coach begin with drafting a team of players for our draft leagues, which are A, B and C league for baseball and Minors, Majors and Juniors for softball. For all leagues, throughout the season head coaches will schedule and run practices, and manage the lineup and strategy during games. Head coaches are expected to know all of the rules (both Little League as well as in-house) related to playing time, pitching limits, etc. This volunteer option spans the entirety of the season, and due to limited spots head coaches will be chosen by the Division VP.
Assistant Coach (*)
Assistant coaches help the head coaches during practices and games, as needed. Assistant coaches will be chosen by their team's head coach, with the assistance of the Division VP. This volunteer option spans the entirety of the season.
(*) Summer All Stars coaches will be chosen from those who volunteer in either of those roles during the regular season.
Evaluation Day
Volunteers are needed on evaluation day (pre-Super Bowl on Sunday, February 11, 2024) and are asked to stay for a 3-hour window and help assess players across a variety of criteria such as throwing, pitching, hitting, fielding, and running, or to handle registration. Some baseball/softball experience is helpful for all positions other than registration. Volunteers interested in Evaluation Day will be sent a Signup Genius prior to the event.
Concession Stand
Volunteers are asked to sign up for two 2-hour slots and run the concession stand at Sedgwick Park (between A and B fields). Slots can be done back-to-back or on different days. Sedgwick closure due to weather would require a make up slot. Volunteers interested in the concession stand will be sent a Signup Genius prior to the start of the season. There will also be plenty of opportunities during playoffs, which won't be released until later in the season.
General Volunteer
There are multiple one day events where we could use assistance, such as uniform distribution, shed cleanup, closing ceremonies, field maintenance, etc. Parents who register as a general volunteer will receive multiple opportunities to sign up (Signup Geniuses typically sent out a couple weeks before an event).
Team Parent
A new role for 2024, the Team Parent will assist the head coach in organizing and communicating with the rest of the team for events such as Photo Day, when more volunteers are needed, etc. This volunteer option spans the entirety of the season.
