District Teams

The criteria for selection, as recommended by Little League International, are:

Eligibility (age, residence, and participation in Little League games)
Availability (will the player be on vacation during that time?)
Ability (in the opinion of those managers casting votes)

In La Grange Little League, we ask our managers, to the best of their ability, to observe and note the playing abilities of the children in their league and to select those players whom they feel have exhibited outstanding ability during this season.  Children develop at different ages.  Selection last year to an All Star team does not guarantee selection this year. 

Little League International recommends that All Stars be selected with input from managers and players. With this in mind, La Grange Little League years ago developed a process in our leagues to help recognize the talents and skills of children in each age group.  We ask each player to vote for players on his/her team that most deserve to be All Stars. 

Under our guidelines, the managers are then provided with a confidential list of children in their league who received votes from at least 50% of their teammates.  As the managers make their final selections for All Stars, they are asked to give strong consideration to the recommendations of the players.  In addition, managers in certain divisions keep statistics for their games through their scorebooks and prepare a list of players from their league that they have identified as showing notable skill in the areas of pitching, catching, fielding, batting, base-running, etc.  At the All Star selection meeting, managers will be encouraged to use all of this information in an attempt to make the selection process as impartial and objective as possible.  Over the years, we have found that the final selections closely mirror the players' votes.

Tournament Teams

The selection process for the tournament teams is less stringent, and rewards those players who, for whatever reason, did not qualify for the District team.
